A Message from Trevor
Written by Trevor Thom
Dear Friends,
Advent is the time we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ, often gathering around the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.
This year, you’ll notice that we are leaning into the theme of peace all season long here at Immanuel. Our prayers and music will be focused on peace, our Candlelight Christmas Concert is titled “Glory to God… Peace to All!,” and we’ll even have some new banners that encourage us to focus on peace. On top of it all, fellow members of Immanuel have created this Advent devotional just for you.
Throughout the days of this holy season, you’ll have the opportunity to focus on expanding peace in your heart, in your home, in your community, and in your world.
On Sundays, you’ll be provided with a liturgy to use when lighting your Advent wreath at home. If you don’t have one, this is the perfect year to add one! You don’t need anything fancy, and there are instructions for making your own on the next page.
On Tuesdays, you’ll get some “Cues from our Confirmation Class.” During our Mentor Meet-Up on November 17, we focused on the theme of peace and the Advent season and compiled some ideas to share with you.
On Saturdays, it’s “Singing Saturday!” You’ll have the opportunity to reflect on a piece of music. You’re invited to simply reflect on the words as you read them, or you can scan a QR code to listen or sing along.
On the other four days of the week, you will be treated to reflections written by members of your faith community here at Immanuel: Linda Argus, Elizabeth Boxell, Marta Boxell, Susan Daniels, Jens Hetzler, Leah Klotz, Ruth Mack, David Morstad, Sue Putra, Rev. Jim Stein, Rev. Carina Schiltz, and me.
This daily devotional has been a labor of love, and I’m grateful to everyone who has made it possible. As you read these words each day, may peace abound in our hearts, our homes, our communities, and the whole world.
Peace be with you!
