Wednesdays in Lent
Dear friends in Christ,
Even though it feels like Christmas was just here… SURPRISE, SURPRISE! Ash Wednesday is around the corner on February 14 this year! We hope you’ll join us for worship that day at 11:00am or 6:30pm as we begin this season together.
The season of Lent is an intentional time for renewal, reflection, and preparation for the celebration of Holy Week and Easter. Long ago, this season was created for the purpose of preparing new Christians to receive the sacrament of baptism at the Easter Vigil. In that spirit, we’ll have two opportunities each Wednesday during the season of Lent to explore the theme, “Living water. Living faith.” which focuses on our five baptismal promises:
to live among God’s faithful people,
to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth.
Lent Lunch: Wednesdays at 12:00pm
New this year, we will have a Lent Lunch that will take place in the second floor Youth Room from 12:00pm-1:00pm. Join Pastor Carina as we enjoy soup, scripture, and discussion together around the theme for that day. Feel free to join us for the whole time or pop in during your lunch hour. The soup will be provided for our first gathering. Please contact the church office if you're able to provide soup, set up, and clean up for one of the other four weeks (ask some friends to join you!).
Lenten Evening Worship: Wednesdays at 6:30pm
We heard some wonderful feedback last year about our seating arrangement for midweek worship, so we’re trying out a new space for 2024! We will be gathering for song, scripture, reflection, and panel conversations with members and friends of Immanuel in our second floor Youth Room – which will become a beautifully transformed space for worship and reflection throughout the season.
Because each gathering will be slightly different, feel free to join us for one or both each week! Lent Lunch & Evening Worship will be held on February 21 & 28 and March 6, 13, & 20. Plan to enter through the office entrance for both of these gatherings. The elevator will be available, and greeters and signs will help you find your way!
It’s our hope that these two gatherings each week during Lent will help each of us give thanks for God’s gift of baptism and offer an opportunity to reflect on the promises we have made.
