Immanuel Resource Library Project

Project Goal

The Project is intended to reclaim and transform Immanuel’s existing Library space into a resource center that will support the faith formation work of the congregation, serve as a source of faith nurture and engagement for families, and provide faith life resources for all members.

Background and Vision

At present, our library (yes, we have one) is an underutilized space that serves only as an occasional storage area. The problems with the space as it currently exists are numerous:

  • It has become a repository of donated materials, many of which have little to do with church or may indeed conflict with our theology.

  • Most materials are outdated and/or unneeded.

  • In general, the library has failed to keep pace with contemporary materials, available technology, and the needs of our individual members and families.

  • The space is neither inviting nor useful.

Working in cooperation with Immanuel’s Faith Formation Committee, the vision for the space is to support the understanding that our faith lives and ministries reach beyond Sunday morning and into the homes and families of our faith community. We are committed to helping it become a point of engagement and ongoing support of our faith journey together.

What if?

Imagine a space that is comfortable, inviting, accessible, contemporary, and relevant to the needs of members—especially families?

First Steps

In order for this project to be successful, it must find interest and usefulness among the members of our congregation. Our intention is to discover the kinds of resources our members would find most helpful in supporting the mission and ministry of Immanuel and be most likely to use. Shortly, we will launch a survey to all Immanuel members, asking them to help envision a new space and prioritize some resource possibilities. Please share your ideas!!
