Christ in the Temple

SECOND NAVE WINDOW:

Christ in the Temple

“They found him in the temple.”

In this window we have the continuation of the manifestation of the divinity of Jesus. This manifestation came when Jesus was at the age of twelve. His parents had started back to Nazareth after observing a religious festival. At evening He was not in their group so they returned and found Him in the temple. The temple is portrayed for us by the arch. Christ is shown in the temple through the use of the Chi Rho, (an “X” with an apparent “P” coming out of it). This is one of the most ancient symbols for Christ. In Greek this is spelled, (Christ) XPICTOS, and by taking the first two letters, this ancient symbol was formed. The seven branched candlestick is another symbol for the temple. The summary of the law scroll is given, “love thy neighbor.” The star is the six-pointed star — the star of David, — He was called as redeemer and teacher for the entire world, which is represented by the globe under the star.
